Reviews >>> Cats

The vocal performances which stand out most have got to be the poignant and
tear jerking song ‘Memories’ performed magnificently by Dianne Pilkington who
playes Grizabella, the outcast glamour cat.

Diane Pilkington as Grizabella may not have possessed quite the vocal range of
Elaine Paige from the original cast but lacked nothing in power or passion.
Her reprise of Memory was so intense that one could feel her pain.

And the show's great hit "Memory", even after Page's chart-topping version
and the hundreds of cover versions that have followed, still retains its ability to
move, particularly in its final appearance just before Grizabella's ascent.
And Diane Pilkington made a superb job of it, especially at that point, making
it feel fresh and emotional.

Dianne Pilkington put her own stamp on Memory and was a truly great
Grizabella, the glamour cat.

Dianne Pilkington as Grizabella and she was superb, receiving enthusiastic
applause and even some cheers. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one there who shed a
tear or two. Musicals get me like that, there’s usually a teary moment and this
was mine in Cats.
