ANSWERS
The character you play now couldn't be more different from the character of Belle
from Beauty And the Beast. What was it like to play one of the most famous
Disney princesses and what was your favorite part about it?
- Emma Jane
I loved Belle for the fact that she was the first Disney heroine not to rely on anyone
to save her – she saved herself!
If you have read Gregory Maguire’s novel 'Wicked', what are your favourite
moments in the book, and, if there are any or if you don’t think that the book and
the musical are too different, which ones did you draw on to create the stage
character of G(a)linda?
- Layni & Jasmina
The book and the musical are quite different – especially for Glinda.
But we mustn’t forget that the novel recreated Oz as we know it in 'Wicked'.
What has been your favourite role so far and why?
Glinda – she’s so complex but essentially a nice if mis-guided person.
If you've not already done it, what would be your dream role and why?
I played it at college – but Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd is a big challenge I’d love
to play her professionally. Glinda was always my dream though!
What's the most embarassing thing that's happened to you on stage?
Knocking off my tiara whilst twirling my wand.
How did you feel the first time you were properly glindafied?
Completely different from me! I still catch sight of myself in the mirror and get
a big shock.
Is there anything from the show that you would like to keep? - Little Glinda
My Tiara! The Oz head might look good in my front room...
Why do you and Kerry always laugh when you sing 'boulder' in 'For Good'?
- Katie & Sarah
Ah… well it’s not very flattering – how like Glinda to refer to Elphie as
an immovable boulder, while she is a stream!
What do you enjoy getting from your fans?
Smiles!
When you have a show, what does your day look like?
Get up at 10am-ish. Gym on 2-3 days. Hang out with my boyfriend
(watch Australian soaps!!). Oh yeah and cleaning!
Would you like to have an official site? Are there any plans of
making one?
In the future!
Who influenced you when you decided to do musical theatre? - Lucie
Judy Garland, Geninea Craven, Ruthie Henshall and my singing teacher Lesley Thompson.
Would you like to possibly do tv roles or movies in the future?
Definitelly – I just did some filming for
‘The Wolfman’ , out next May. Not for
kids,
but a great scary movie set in 1890s. With Anthony Hopkins,
Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, Hugo Weaving.
Do you ever get bored of the bubble?
Never!
Where do you buy your dresses from?
Mostly Top shop vintage and Miss Selfridge. Occasionally something more posh
but I like vintage and the high street is great at the moment.
If you could go back in time, to any decade where would you go and why?
I’d go back to Tudor times – I’d like to have a chat with Anne Boleyn!
Would you like to play Christine in "The Phantom Of the Opera"?
Sure – what a great role.
Would you ever like to go to NYC and do a Broadway show or are you
happy doing the West End?-
Robbie
My heart is here – but never say never.
What was the best present that you have recieved from a fan?
They are all great… no favourites!
How many auditions did you have to do to get the part of Glinda?
About 4 or 5 – some were workshop type auditions.
What's your favourite thing about being a West End star?
Meeting nice people who love to perform.
What's it like performing with Kerry Ellis?
What can I say – apart from being a really great friend, she is awesome and blows me away.
What's your favourite line in Wicked?
‘Do I have something in my teeth?’
What's your favourite song to perform?
Popular.
Did you ever ever ever think you'd end up playing in the West End?
- cocodramaqueen
Not when I was a kid, no!
Which character do you identify more with as a character, Elphaba or Glinda?
At school, more Elphaba. But I have strong ties with both.
If they said to you for one night only you can play Elphaba and
Kerry Glinda, would you do it?
- Heather
Of course! Although I suspect Kerry would look better in pink than I would in Green.
Whats your advice for younger performers hoping to get on the West End?
- Philippa
It’s hard work but if you love it then just know all you can, listen and learn from
anyone you can.
Which one of your costumes in Wicked is your favourite, and which one is your least favourite?
I love the pink dress it moves so well. I don’t dislike any but I will say the Thank
Goodness costume is really hard to sing/breathe in.
Which song from Wicked do you enjoy singing the most?
To sing – Thank Goodness is beautiful.
Which is the hardest scene to act in Wicked? - summer_xx_skies
The opening – it’s very nerve wrecking and crosses some fine lines!
What's the funniest thing that's ever happened backstage?
Sarah Earnshaw’s weekly challenge!
Your Glinda voice is quite different to any of the previous ones, how
did you come up with it?
- Zoe
Well… I do know someone who speaks in a simmilar way who is lovely and sweet
and reminds me of Glinda.
Are there any plans for you to release an album? if so, what kind of music will be
on it?
What kind of genre and will you be writing the songs yourself?
- Caz Reason
I would like to in the future – I’m guessing I’ll stuck to Musical Theatre but I would like to use some new material.
Do you try to make Kerry laugh in ‘Popular’? - Katie
